Ooooh child, now pull up a chair and loosen your britches, ‘cause what I’m fixin’ to share ain’t just soup—it’s miracle in a mason jar.
This here’s what I call Granny Woman Garden Soup—born of leftovers, backyard bounty, and a prayer whispered over steam. I didn’t follow no recipe, I followed my gut, and she said, “Throw it in the pot, baby.”
It’s got enough garlic to banish a cold and an ex.
Enough broth to baptize your bones.
And herbs? Chile, the herbs were singin’.
One bowl of this and you’ll be out back weedin’ pumpkins with one hand and callin’ on the ancestors with the other.
So don’t you dare call this “just soup.”
It’s a revival.
It’s a reckoning.
It’s the best damn thing to ever bubble on my stove—and I’ll stand on a stump and say so.
Now hush up and let Granny show you how it’s done
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 cup diced fresh tomatoes
- 1 cup diced fresh shishito peppers
- 1 cup fresh snow peas
- 1 cup diced celery
- 1 cup diced carrots
- 1 cup diced sweet potato (skin on)
- 1 whole bulb garlic, smashed and minced
- ¼ cup fresh ginger, finely chopped
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 carton chicken bone broth
- Water (fill broth carton once and add to pot)
Herbs & Spices (add after boiling)
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp ground turmeric
- 2 tbsp dried holy basil
- 1 tsp dried saffron
- 1 tbsp ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp bamboo salt
- 1 tbsp Celtic salt
Finish With
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- ½ cup leftover pesto (jarred or homemade)
Sacred Instructions
- Combine veggies, broth, and water in a large pot. Bring to a boil.
- Lower heat, then add herbs and spices.
- Stir in figure eights while breathing in the medicine.
- Play ancestral music. Let the spirits hum through the steam.
- Add butter and pesto. Stir again with love. Simmer 30–45 minutes.
To Serve
- Toast leftover sourdough with garlic-herb butter at 400°F.
- Top each bowl of soup with a heap of fresh calendula petals.
- Nestle in a toasted sourdough slice.
- Serve with a pickle jar of sweet iced tea.
Serves 8 to 10 generous bowls,
the kind that fills a belly and quiets a storm inside.
If you’re serving it with that toasted sourdough and calendula crown, it’s a full meal on its own. Stretch it further with a side salad or serve seconds when the spirit calls.
“Sure enough made this Ole woman feel fine and dandy. Like I could weed the pumpkin patch one-handed under a hot sun.”

The Blessing Y’all
Come now, take and eat—
from garden, bone, and root beneath.
This ain’t just food—it’s a remembering.
May it warm your belly, mend your sorrow,
strengthen your hands for the work of tomorrow.
May the herbs sing you steady, the broth hold you tight,
and the petals remind you:
you were made for delight.
May every bite stitch back the fray,
and may your soul rise
like steam on a summer day.
A’ho, Amen, and bless your bones.
Now hush and eat before the Lord you meet!
